Прошедшее совершённое продолженное время (the past perfect continuous tense) имеет модель had been doing для всех лиц единственного и множественного числа. Эта временна´я форма обозначает действие, которое началось до определённого момента в прошлом, продолжалось до этого момента и не прекращалось в этот самый момент (inclusive) или прекратилось в этот момент в прошлом, а результат этого действия был очевиден (exclusive):
We couldn’t go out because it had been raining since early morning. (And it was still raining.) (Inclusive) Мы не могли выйти из дома, так как с утра шёл дождь. (И дождь всё ещё шёл.)
When I looked out of the window, the ground was wet. It had been raining the whole night. (But it was not raining at the moment.) (Exclusive) Когда я выглянул в окно, тротуары были мокрые. Всю ночь шёл дождь. (Но в тот момент дождя уже не было.)
Будущее совершённое продолженное время (the future perfect continuous tense), имеющее модель will have been doing, практически не используется.
